The paper presents applications of criteria for integral points on surfaces obtained by the same authors in a previous paper (Annals Math 2004). In particular, degeneracy is proved for Hirzebruch surfaces, which in turn yields degenracy for a family of S-unit equations a(t)u+b(t)v=c(t), u,v S-units, t integer, a,b,c linear polynomials.
