The paper aims to reassess the information about the Macedonian intervention in the Propontic peninsula in the early Hellenistic age. It descri- bes the interaction of Alexander, Perdiccas and Antigonus Monophthalmus with the local powers that had developed in that area since the 5th century BC, i.e. the so-called dynasts of Cius, the tyrants of Heraclea Pontica, the Bithynians and the Paphlagonians.
