the paper argues that the manuscript text of Pseudo-Xenophon, Constitution of the Athenians, 3.10 δοκοῦσι δὲ Ἀθηναῖοι καὶ τοῦτό μοι οὐκ ὀρθῶς βουλεύεσθαι is not acceptable. The transmitted text gives a meaning that is inconsistent with what follows and with the text of the treatise in general. The author cannot say «It seems to me that the Athenians have a mistaken policy», since the treatise argues that the policies of the Athenians are efficacious. One should follow the conjecture first proposed by Faltin in 1872 and read δοκοῦσι δὲ Ἀθηναῖοι καὶ τοῦτό σοι οὐκ ὀρθῶς βουλεύεσθαι «It seems to you that the Athenians have a mistaken policy». The author is addressing an interlocutor, as in 1.8, 1.10, 1.11. The paper advances linguistic and philological argument in support of the conjecture.
