The construction and representation of ancient gods is a complex process that mobilizes various resources, including the link to space, which is a major component of divine onomastics. This contribution examines the way in which gods are inscribed in space by articulating, in the dimension of narratives and worship, stability, anchorage and movement, expansion. This paradox, specific to the divine world, is reflected in their ways of acting, in different aspects of cults and in the names attributed to them.

Abstract

The construction and representation of ancient gods is a complex process that mobilizes various resources, including the link to space, which is a major component of divine onomastics. This contribution examines the way in which gods are inscribed in space by articulating, in the dimension of narratives and worship, stability, anchorage and movement, expansion. This paradox, specific to the divine world, is reflected in their ways of acting, in different aspects of cults and in the names attributed to them.
