This study aims to highlight the importance of Milan’s urban environment in the early 20th century as a crucial factor for the birth and the development of the Clinica del Lavoro, a pivotal institution for Occupational Medicine at an international level. Its founder Luigi Devoto was able to collect re- sources from political circles, labour unions, and philanthropists in a context of powerful industrial development: this reformist milieu represented a real laboratory for social innovation.
