Ugo Mulas/Jasper Johns. Fotografia come atto critico. Photography as Critical Act

In his three renowned and extensive photo reportages from the studios of American artists (1964, 1965, 1967), Ugo Mulas’s images of Jasper Johns stand apart for the extraordinary relationship that developed between the photographer and the artist. For the first time, Johns revealed his gestures and painting processes, while Mulas began to question the very meaning, for him, of photographing an artist at work. This study offers a detailed analysis of these images and presents a fresh interpretation of how Mulas’s reportages on Johns shaped the photographer’s late creative trajectory.

Il presente studio indaga analiticamente queste riprese e propone una nuova interpretazione dell’impatto che i reportage su Johns ebbero nella vicenda creativa dell’ultimo Mulas.
