This essay discusses the metrics of Dante’s Rime from two different points of view. In the first part Arnaldo Soldani handles its connections with syntax, and traces its evolution from the Vita Nuova to the Petrose poems. In the second part Marco Praloran analyzes the rhythm of the verses, and compares it with some precedent poetic experiences (Giacomo da Lentini, Chiaro Davanzati, Guittone d’Arezzo).
