The Ager Pisanus Project (Central-North Italy) aimed at the systematic digitization and analysis of the whole available archaeological and paleo-environmental legacy data dating from Hellenistic period to Late Antique for the city of Pisae and its territory. The (big) dataset provides a rather complex picture of the widespread and variable settlement pattern of this large coastal territory, attesting also to forms of aggregation beyond the city. GIS-based multi-level and multiperiod maps are created for the visualization of the global pattern, highlighting settlement dynamics in the long term.

Abstract

The Ager Pisanus Project (Central-North Italy) aimed at the systematic digitization and analysis of the whole available archaeological and paleo-environmental legacy data dating from Hellenistic period to Late Antique for the city of Pisae and its territory. The (big) dataset provides a rather complex picture of the widespread and variable settlement pattern of this large coastal territory, attesting also to forms of aggregation beyond the city. GIS-based multi-level and multiperiod maps are created for the visualization of the global pattern, highlighting settlement dynamics in the long term.
