Diachronic variations in the ancient theory of breathings

This paper shows some of the diachronic variations involving the ancient theory of grammatical breathings in Greek over the centuries. In particular, it focuses on the role that the analogical method and vowel quantities played in the systematization of breathings made by Greek grammarians from the ancient to the Byzantine period. This paper also sheds new light on the sources of the so-called Mischlexikon περὶ πνευμάτων, the most widespread treatise on breathings of the Byzantine age.
