This paper is the preliminary investigation of the so-called ‘ingrottamento’ deposit (late 8th- mid-6th century BCE). The ‘ingrottamento’ and its archaeological assemblage were retrieved in 1968 within the archaeological complex of Via Tevere, located in the peripheral northern part of Achradina. Despite the relevance, this site has never been published. Moreover, while having a fairly good knowledge of the early Greek settlement in Ortygia, even though much remains still unpublished, we know very little of the mainland area. This paper, therefore, aims to bridge this gap, by providing a preliminary investigation of the ‘ingrottamento’ assemblage in light of its context and possible activities carried out in the area.
