This essay, in form of a dialogue, focuses on some of the main traits of Italian contemporary history, which is analysed in light of the current political debate. The peculiarity of this volume is the interaction between a philosophical and a political viewpoint, which are put to the test in light of the contradictions existing in Italian and European culture, in search of sensible and concrete answers. Special attention is devoted to the strong influence of the Catholic Church, in Italy, since the age of Counter-Reformation, and to the problems that derived from this situation in terms of the development of an independent and free ‘civic life’.
