The contribution provides an overview of developments at both EU and Member State level, and assesses the shift (if any) in policy discourse and measures. The chapter considers these issues in the following way. Section 1 will focus on EU-level developments, analysing the impact of the crisis on the interplay between the core issues of adequacy and sustainability. Section 2 will focus on pension reforms undertaken over the past year in three EU Member States - Greece, France and Hungary - and assess the extent to which a similar shift in emphasis can be observed. Section 3 will draw some preliminary conclusions as to how the crisis has affected EU-level developments as well as pension reform patterns in Member States.
