Abstract

Intensity mapping (IM) is sensitive to the cumulative line emission of galaxies. As such it represents a promising technique for statistical studies of galaxies fainter than the limiting magnitude of traditional galaxy surveys. The strong hydrogen Ly_ line is the primary target for such an experiment, as its intensity is linked to star formation activity and the physical state of the interstellar (ISM) and intergalactic (IGM) medium. We present a study of the cosmological Ly_ emission signal at z > 4 and its prospects for a future observation. We predict the power spectrum of the spatial uctuations that could be observed by an intensity mapping survey. The model uses the latest data from the HST legacy _elds and the abundance matching technique to associate UV emission and dust properties with the halos, computing the emission from the interstellar medium (ISM) of galaxies and the intergalactic medium (IGM), including the e_ects of reionization, self-consistently.
