La presenza ateniese in Asia Minore nell’ultimo quarto del IV secolo a.C. : il caso di Priene

Some inscriptions identify the existence of intense contacts between Athens and the small town of Priene in the last years of the fourth century BC and they are characterized by the exaltation of the mythical kinship between the two political realities. Through the examination of the features of these epigraphies and the analysis of historical context in which they was produced, this paper aims to investigate the political intents which underlay the reference to the atavic blood tie, that both Athens and Priene used as topic of their political propaganda at the beginning of the Hellenistic Age.

Alcune iscrizioni individuano l’esistenza di intensi contatti tra Atene e la cittadina microasiatica di Priene negli ultimi anni del IV secolo a.C. e si caratterizzano per l’esaltazione della mitica parentela tra le due realtà politiche. Grazie all’esame degli elementi che emergono dalle iscrizioni e alla considerazione del contesto storico in cui esse si inquadrano, questo articolo vuole indagare quali obiettivi politici fossero sottesi al richiamo all’atavico vincolo di sangue, che risulta essere un topos della propaganda politica sia di Atene sia di Priene all’inizio dell’epoca ellenistica.
