The aim of this study is to investigate the relation between Montaigne and Patrizi. Taking into account the aesthetic aspect of their written productions proves of the uttermost importance. On the one hand, strong similarities between language theories from Patrizi’s "Dialoghi della Retorica" and some passages of the "Essais", which could reveal Patrizi’s work as a source for Montaigne, are traceable. On the other hand it is also relevant to observe some more general theoretical consonances.
