Riscrivere il mito classico : “Circe e Pico” di Diodata Saluzzo

Published in Turin in 1808, the theatrical work Circe e Pico written by Diodata Saluzzo (1774-1840) is based on a myth told in Ovid’s Metamorphoses, but shows some significant departures from the ancient source, in particular the happy ending. Focusing on the identity of the characters and on the most important thematic choices, this article aims to illustrate the relationship between this theatrical work and its main models, which belong to the ancient and modern literature.

Pubblicata a Torino nel 1808, l’opera in musica Circe e Pico di Diodata Saluzzo (1774-1840) si ispira a un mito narrato nelle Metamorfosi di Ovidio, ma mostra significative differenze rispetto alla fonte classica, in primo luogo l’inserimento di un lieto fine. Soffermandosi sulla caratterizzazione dei personaggi e su alcu- ne scelte tematiche di particolare rilievo, il presente contributo intende delinea- re il rapporto che intercorre tra questo dramma musicale e i suoi principali modelli, antichi e moderni.
