Letteratura italiana del Seicento e filologia d'autore: Giovan Battista Marino

Seventeenth-century Italian literature and authorial philology : Giovan Battista Marino · Giovan Battista Marino’s autograph manuscripts, none of which concerns his major works, do not possess the features and the appearance of drafts or first versions, as they are all substantially clean copies without corrections and variants. For this reason, if a work is documented in multiple versions, the phases of the elaboration of the text are to be reconstructed by determining the relation that consecutively links the various witnesses transmitting them. Analysing some particular cases (Rime, Galeria, Adone), this paper attempts an overview of aspects and problems of the tradition of Marino’s texts from the perspective of authorial philology and pays particular attention to the indications that the study of the different types of surviving textual materials may provide on the author’s way of working and to their repercussions on ecdotical practice.

Delle opere maggiori di Giovan Battista Marino non possediamo autografi e di quei pochi che pure ci sono pervenuti nessuno ha l’aspetto e le caratteristiche di abbozzi, scartafacci e prime stesure, presentandosi tutti sostanzialmente come copie in pulito, prive di correzioni e varianti : ne consegue che, nel caso di opere documentate in diverse redazioni d’autore, le fasi dell’elaborazione del testo andranno ricostruite fissando il rapporto che lega in successione i vari testimoni che le tramandano. Passando in rassegna alcuni casi particolari (Rime, Galeria, Adone), il contributo tenta un primo bilancio degli aspetti e dei problemi della tradizione dei testi mariniani dalla prospettiva della filologia d’autore a partire dalla tipologia dei materiali elaborativi superstiti, prestando particolare attenzione alle indicazioni che dal loro studio possono provenire sul modo di lavorare dell’autore e alle loro ricadute nella prassi ecdotica.
