Staging the Iliad: Reuse and Variation in Astydam. TrGF i 60 F **2a · This paper investigates a tragic fragment (TrGF i 60 F **2a), attributed to the Hector of Astydamas. In the fragment a messenger describes the duel between Hector and Achilles narrated in Iliad 22. This article focuses on the messenger’s point of view and the relationship between the fragment and the Iliad. Their analysis highlights the use of a particular technique of variation of the Homeric model: the author of the fragment follows the Iliadic narration, but punctually reverses it by making Hector perform the actions that Achilles performs in the Iliad and vice versa. In the last part of the work some hypotheses will be proposed on the staging of the fragment.
