Agrigento: Lo scavo-scuola 2022

The 2022 excavation campaign focused on the western sector of the sanctuary, in order to better define limits and structures on the north-western side of the temple: the foundation trench of the blocks runs parallel to the northern side of the sacred building, although the po-sitioning of the blocks is slightly different nowadays. The structure func-tions as a retaining and terracing wall. New archival and graphic data prompted us to turn our attention to the temple and the definition of the inner space: it seems plausible to identify a sort of adyton in the western part of the cella; the stairs and the sacred space were conceived from the first phase of the building. Archaeological materials from the trench at the altar provided us with significant data on the chronology of the sanctuary; furthermore, the investigation at the north-eastern sector of the altar yielded further information regarding technique and working sequence at the monument.
