La federazione di Francia del PSI (1949-1994): un’originale comunità di emigrati socialisti

The aim of this article is to present a study of the French Federation of the Italian Socialist Party (PSI) from the late 1940s to the early 1990s. As well as reconstructing the main events and protagonists in the history of the federation, the essay highlights three other interesting aspects of its evolution over time. Firstly, it provides an overview of Italian emigration to France during a period that is generally little studied, especially in the political sphere. Secondly, it provides an opportunity for a critical evaluation of the complex relationship within the Italian Socialist Party’s leadership, examining its chronic difficulties. Finally, it sheds light on the relations developed between the PSI and the French Socialist Party (PS) through the activities of Italian socialist emigrants in France.
