This essay focuses on the analysis of Bettino Craxi’s international reflection in the last years spent in Hammamet. Drawing from documents preserved at the Fondazione Bettino Craxi, the article aims to reconstruct the main themes around which the former secretary of the Italian Socialist Party articulated his reflections. Firstly, it examines his views on Italy's role in the new post-Cold War era; secondly, it reconstructs Craxi’s analysis of major international events in the second half of the 1990s; lastly, it offers the former Italian Prime Minister’s evaluations of some of the most significant episodes in his long political life. In the conclusion, the essay attempts to assess continuities and discontinuities within Craxi’s broader experience, particularly in relation to the evolution of Italian foreign policy after the end of the Cold War.
