This contribution investigates the connection between statuary art and magic, starting from the hermetic context. Subsequently we observe how the theme was expressed in early modern Italy through the works of Marsilio Ficino. In Ficino, the living simulacra of the Hermetic tradition are nuanced through the use of complex metaphors relating to the human psyche: as well as statues made of stone, they are also characterized as more intangible statues made of psychic "material".

Abstract
This contribution investigates the connection between statuary art and magic, starting from the hermetic context. Subsequently we observe how the theme was expressed in early modern Italy through the works of Marsilio Ficino. In Ficino, the living simulacra of the Hermetic tradition are nuanced through the use of complex metaphors relating to the human psyche: as well as statues made of stone, they are also characterized as more intangible statues made of psychic "material".File in questo prodotto:
