This paper discusses the results of the 2023 excavation campaign at the altar of Temple D in Agrigento. Stratigraphic archaeological excavations were conducted within the fill where the altar table was located, specifically in its southern section, between the substructure wall (analemma) and the western wall. As observed in previous excavation seasons (2020-2022), the stratigraphic layers yielded archaic and classical materials, including pottery and terracotta votive offerings. The investigations also provided a better understanding of the altar’s architecture during the Classical period and confirmed that the area was already in use for cultic purposes as early as the Archaic period, prior to the monumentalization of the altar and Temple D with limestone blocks in the first half of the 5th century BCE.
