Sulla scia di Marino : il dramma per musica “Adone in Cipro” (1676)

This essay examines the dramma per musica Adone in Cipro, which is reportedly first performed in the Carnival of 1676 at the San Salvador Theatre in Venice. Based on the libretto written by Giovanni Matteo Giannini, with the music composed by Giovanni Legrenzi, this work was part of a group of four spectacles sponsored by the marquis Guido III Rangoni. The article aims to shed light on the relationship between this work and its sources, in particular Marino’s poem Adone. Besides, my intent is to analyze some drawings in order to understand the marvelous scenes of Baroque opera.

Il saggio esamina il dramma per musica Adone in Cipro, andato in scena nel Carnevale del 1676 al Teatro San Salvador di Venezia. Tale rappresentazione, basata sul libretto di Giovanni Matteo Giannini, con musiche di Giovanni Legrenzi, faceva parte di un ciclo di quattro opere finanziate dal marchese Guido III Rangoni. L’obiettivo è ricostruire il rapporto che questo testo intrattiene con le sue fonti, anzitutto l’Adone di Marino, senza trascurare certi disegni utili a comprendere i pregevoli allestimenti scenici di età barocca.
