Codici aragonesi in Sicilia

This paper presents a number of manuscripts nowadays preserved in the libraries of several Sicilian cities and towns, from Palermo to Siracusa, from Nicosia to Messina, but originally coming from Aragonese Naples. The illuminations of these codices, most of which were already described by Angela Daneu Lattanzi in I manoscritti ed incunaboli miniati della Sicilia, are particularly analysed, and new attributions are proposed or existing ones are confirmed, in any case by developing an up-to-date discussion on the most recent results of art-historical research. In addition, these manuscripts are examined from the point of view of external history, in an attempt to establish whether the origin of their arrival in the region was, as for other volumes that migrated elsewhere in the meantime, the passage to Messina in 1495 of the Aragonese Library, of which they were certainly part.
