The paper aims to show the structural and functional similarities and differences between the Nuovo soggettario Thesaurus and the Wikidata knowledge base, providing an overview about their reciprocal interoperability, due to the compliance of both tools with the FAIR principles and RDF standard. As a case study, a group of terms in the Thesaurus relating to photography has been manually reconciled with the corresponding Wikidata items. The reconciliation process involved a review of the meaning and form of the terms and is described in detail with some significant examples. On the basis of this work, some general conclusions are drawn about the possibilities of reciprocal quantitative and qualitative improvement and a few possible future projects are outlined.
