The paper accounts the discovery of the oldest letter by Camillo Pellegrino concerning the controversy between Orlando furioso and Gerusalemme liberata. In March 1585, a few months after the publication of his dialogue Il Carrafa, Pellegrino wrote to Scipione Ammirato that he had just read the Difesa dell’‘Orlando furioso’ composed by the Crusca Academicians in response to his own dialogue and said he intended to reply. The essay provides an edition of the document and unravels its numerous allusions: particularly stringent are the similarities with the subjects raised in the beginning of the Replica to the Crusca (autumn 1585), which are contained in nuce in the letter.

Abstract
The paper accounts the discovery of the oldest letter by Camillo Pellegrino concerning the controversy between Orlando furioso and Gerusalemme liberata. In March 1585, a few months after the publication of his dialogue Il Carrafa, Pellegrino wrote to Scipione Ammirato that he had just read the Difesa dell’‘Orlando furioso’ composed by the Crusca Academicians in response to his own dialogue and said he intended to reply. The essay provides an edition of the document and unravels its numerous allusions: particularly stringent are the similarities with the subjects raised in the beginning of the Replica to the Crusca (autumn 1585), which are contained in nuce in the letter.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
