The contribution proposes one of the first critical editions with linguistic commentary of an artistic recipe book, the collection of «ricepte da ffare più colori», copied by Ambrogio di Ser Pietro da Siena in 1462 and preserved in the cod. I.II.19 of the Biblioteca Comunale degli Intronati in Siena. The text is placed in the historical and artistic context that promoted its copying; the linguistic analysis not only fully restores the original Sienese patina, but it also brings out other characteristics typical of the recipe book tradition as practical texts and it enhances the technical and artisanal lexicon.
