Giorgio de Chirico and his mother spent a few days in Turin in July 1911 during their journey from Florence to Paris. This paper discusses the chronology of their stay in Turin, thanks to the consultation of train timetables, and aims to define what events the painter could have witnessed in this town, which inspired his paintings from 1912 to 1915. This report also investigates the International Exhibition of Industry and Labour, organised to celebrate the fiftieth Anniversary of the Italian Unification. An exploration of this fair, including its decoration, shows interesting concurrences with some elements in de Chirico’s paintings, which may be proof of his visit there.

Abstract
Giorgio de Chirico and his mother spent a few days in Turin in July 1911 during their journey from Florence to Paris. This paper discusses the chronology of their stay in Turin, thanks to the consultation of train timetables, and aims to define what events the painter could have witnessed in this town, which inspired his paintings from 1912 to 1915. This report also investigates the International Exhibition of Industry and Labour, organised to celebrate the fiftieth Anniversary of the Italian Unification. An exploration of this fair, including its decoration, shows interesting concurrences with some elements in de Chirico’s paintings, which may be proof of his visit there.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
