This essay intends to commemorate one of the most important figures of the Catholic culture of the second half of the XX century in Italy. In particular, it shows that Martini’s historiographical research was firmly grounded on theological bases and that this fact must be taken into consideration in order to understand the distinctive traits and the strong points of Martini’s peculiar position.
