The paper focuses on the analysis of an engraving commissioned to Jacopo Ligozzi by the Franciscan Vincenzo Berdini as a visual synthesis of the public speech he delivered in Florence in 1606, on the occasion of the provincial chapter of his order. Through an analysis and interpretation of its dense symbolic apparatus it is possible to reconstruct the content and the ideological message contained in that speech, in which the Sienese friar summarized the political theology later exposed in several books, presenting it as Catholic pedagogy for the young heir to the throne of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany Cosimo II de' Medici, in open conflict against Niccolo Machiavelli and Jean Bodin.

Abstract
The paper focuses on the analysis of an engraving commissioned to Jacopo Ligozzi by the Franciscan Vincenzo Berdini as a visual synthesis of the public speech he delivered in Florence in 1606, on the occasion of the provincial chapter of his order. Through an analysis and interpretation of its dense symbolic apparatus it is possible to reconstruct the content and the ideological message contained in that speech, in which the Sienese friar summarized the political theology later exposed in several books, presenting it as Catholic pedagogy for the young heir to the throne of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany Cosimo II de' Medici, in open conflict against Niccolo Machiavelli and Jean Bodin.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
