This paper addresses the incomplete inscription that displays the name of Bonannus civis Pisanus, found in 1838 at the foot of the Leaning Tower in Pisa. The author reconstructs the surviving text and for the first time proposes a reading that completes the missing parts of the inscription. Thanks to this unprecedented reading, she demonstrates that the inscription represents Bonannus' signature, which was meant to appear on the monument; this confirms Vasari's claim that Bonanno was responsible for building the Tower.

Abstract
This paper addresses the incomplete inscription that displays the name of Bonannus civis Pisanus, found in 1838 at the foot of the Leaning Tower in Pisa. The author reconstructs the surviving text and for the first time proposes a reading that completes the missing parts of the inscription. Thanks to this unprecedented reading, she demonstrates that the inscription represents Bonannus' signature, which was meant to appear on the monument; this confirms Vasari's claim that Bonanno was responsible for building the Tower.File in questo prodotto:
