In the 20th century, several interpretations of Plato emerged within the framework of the so-called second Querelle des Anciens et des Modernes, revisiting the question of the good life. This paper examines the lesser-explored perspective of Gerhard Krüger, who, in his attempt to rethink the possibility of natural theology, develops a metaphysics and hermeneutics of love. His approach unfolds in critical dialogue with Leo Strauss, particularly around their diverging interpretations of Socrates. Although both the philosophers oppose Heidegger’s ethical abyss, Krüger’s emphasis on mythologein shapes a distinct understanding of theoretical and political action, contrasting with the clear separation Strauss establishes between these two realms.
