This paper deals with the so-called ‘Baths of Nero’ in Pisa, a unique monumental evidence of the Roman town Pisae. After a short introduction about historical and topographic data, the building and its construction phases are described. The functional and architectural features of each room are analysed following the circulation pattern, in order to define the planimetric and architectural type of the building. Particular attention is devoted to Room 4, traditionally considered as an open area, and here interpreted as a large covered room functioning, perhaps, as a frigidarium. Finally, the dating issues are discussed.

Abstract
This paper deals with the so-called ‘Baths of Nero’ in Pisa, a unique monumental evidence of the Roman town Pisae. After a short introduction about historical and topographic data, the building and its construction phases are described. The functional and architectural features of each room are analysed following the circulation pattern, in order to define the planimetric and architectural type of the building. Particular attention is devoted to Room 4, traditionally considered as an open area, and here interpreted as a large covered room functioning, perhaps, as a frigidarium. Finally, the dating issues are discussed.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
