Segesta : Lo scavo dell’ephebikon (2021-23): una sintesi, in prospettiva

We present a summary of the results of the most recent investigations along the southern side of the agora of Segesta, aimed at a comprehensive reading of it. These investigations have filled a gap in our knowledge of this sector, enabling previous hypotheses to be revised. Particular attention is paid to the ephebikon, the monument thus defined in a dedication inscribed on a statue base preserved in situ within it. The word ephebikon has opened up many new research perspectives concerning the agora/gymnasium relationship and many other historical and archaeological aspects. The building is now legible in its entire architectural articulation, both planimetric and volumetric, as well as in its relationship to the southern stoa of the square. The inscription on the base attests to the importance of the family and personal self-representation of the city élites.

Viene presentata una sintesi dei risultati delle più recenti indagini lungo il lato meridionale dell'agorà di Segesta, avviando così una lettura complessiva della stessa. Le indagini hanno colmato una lacuna nella conoscenza di questo settore, permettendo di rivedere ipotesi precedenti. Particolare attenzione è rivolta all'ephebikon, il monumento così definito in una dedica iscritta su una base di statua conservata in situ al suo interno. Questo termine ha aperto molte nuove prospettive di ricerca sul rapporto agorà/ginnasio e su molti altri aspetti storici e archeologici. L'edificio è ora leggibile nella sua intera articolazione architettonica, sia planimetrica che volumetrica; così come nel suo rapporto con la stoa meridionale della piazza. L'iscrizione sul basamento attesta l'importanza dell'autorappresentazione familiare e personale delle élites cittadine.
