Impresa. Visual Poetry between Historiographical Issues and Research Perspectives · Starting from the reconstruction of the historiographical debate between Benedetto Croce and Mario Praz regarding the value and function of emblematic literature in the culture of the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Centuries, the essay proposes a review of the main conceptual nuclei of this cultural experience and of the ways in which its influence was characterised within the poetic and rhetorical context of Mannerism and Baroque, dwelling in conclu- sion on the paradigmatic case of contiguity between lyrical writing and impresa found in the manuscripts Aforismi delle Imprese by Girolamo Borsieri.
