This paper examines the political-religious thinking of the french-jewish intellectual Jacques Bahar (1859-1899) in relationship with his brief adherence to Zionist movement (1897-99). Even if Bahar was a marginal and little known figure, his intellectual path between religion and nationalism was a common trait of the Jewish intelligentsia approached to Zionism, namely the research of a synthesis between Nationalism and Jewish emancipation, called Nationalhumanismus and partly studied by George L. Mosse. The paper gives one brief example about this intellectual zionist research with the case of Nahum Slouschz (1871-1966) and then it examines the Bahar's political-religious thinking, especially focusing on his Zionist utopia Antigoysme à Sion (1898).

Abstract
This paper examines the political-religious thinking of the french-jewish intellectual Jacques Bahar (1859-1899) in relationship with his brief adherence to Zionist movement (1897-99). Even if Bahar was a marginal and little known figure, his intellectual path between religion and nationalism was a common trait of the Jewish intelligentsia approached to Zionism, namely the research of a synthesis between Nationalism and Jewish emancipation, called Nationalhumanismus and partly studied by George L. Mosse. The paper gives one brief example about this intellectual zionist research with the case of Nahum Slouschz (1871-1966) and then it examines the Bahar's political-religious thinking, especially focusing on his Zionist utopia Antigoysme à Sion (1898).File | Dimensione | Formato | |
